Ok, so I am getting really tired of people who don’t know what’s going on standing behind Carrie Prejean just because they think that she was fired because of her answer.
First of all, just to reiterate, one of the reasons she lost was that she didn’t even answer the question that was asked of her, NOT because of her opinion. The question did NOT ask for her opinion of gay marriage. She was asked, Vermont is the fourth state to legalize gay marriage, do you feel that others should do the same? A very simple answer that would’ve actually answered the question would’ve been: While I do not agree with it, we live in a country where we can allow the people to decide through a vote. This way she could’ve still stated that she does not agree with same sex marriage, but that it’s not up to her, if she insisted that her opinion needed to be part of the answer.
Now, to put that aside, if you think as a titleholder that you get to call the shots on appearances, pay, etc than you do not belong in pageantry. You are representing your director’s business, which means they are your boss. You would not see the spokesmodel for Revlon, Cosmo, etc trying to tell their boss what they will and won’t do.
Part of being a titleholder is helping to get the word out about the pageant, NOT just service to your community. Your director also SHOULD be keeping a % of anything that anyone pays for your presence as a result of being their titleholder. Your director is your AGENT for the year (or longer, depending on your individual contract), as such they tell you where to be, when to be there, how to be dressed and whether or not you will make a penny. Your director does not have to give you a penny from an appearance fee, but most will because they know you have expenses to be there and that your time is valuable.
Please know that I am not bashing anyone, facts are facts and they have certainly been presented by the Miss California Organization, right down to the email correspondence between Miss Prejean and the Executive Director. If the tone of those emails has been the tone since she was crowned, then I know many directors who would have given her the boot within a month of being crowned and not looked back. If you are not willing to do what your director tells you, then do NOT compete. It’s as simple as that.
If Miss Prejean had been allowed to keep her title despite disrespecting her directors in such manners and not fulfilling her contractual obligations as Miss California USA then it would have opened it up for every other titleholder to be able to do the same. You are a role model as a titleholder, and respect is a huge part of being a role model both by respecting others and giving reason to be respected.
Now, please let’s allow Miss Kristen Dalton to have her time in the spotlight as our new Miss USA!

I need YOUR feedback! Would you attend a networking event/seminar for the pageant industry?? Please leave me a comment below with answers to some or preferably all, of the questions below.
1. Would you attend a networking event/seminar weekend in Vegas? It would be open to contestants and titleholders from all systems, probably ages teen and up?
2. If so, what would you be willing to spend to attend?
3. Would you prefer that the cost be a little higher but include hotel and/or meals?
4. What kind of seminars would you like to see? Or would you prefer it to mainly be a networking opportunity?
5. What kind of vendors, if any, would you like to see?
6. Should it be held during one of the national pageants that take place in Vegas, or should it be a separate weekend?
7. Would you like to be contacted when we have the details set for such an event?
Thanks so much for your feedback!! If we are going to plan an event, we want it to be what people are looking for and will actually attend! Feel free to leave any other comments or suggestions as well!!!

HydroPeptide® Is Making Beautiful, Younger Looking Eyes with the Creation of the Limited Edition HydroPeptide® Complete Eye and Lash Restoration Kit
The HydroPeptide® Complete Eye and Lash Restoration Kit Lash creates the eyes and eyelashes that dreams are made of.
Issaquah, Wash. June 3, 2009 – A new study shows that the eyes are the first place people look to when gauging a persons’ age. When all eyes are watching, look back with confidence. Increase confidence, look beautiful, and stimulate dull eyes and eyelashes with the new Limited Edition HydroPeptide® Complete Eye and Lash Restoration Kit. This is the only product on the market to address every age-related (and even non age-related) eye area concern.
HydroPeptide’s® techno-innovation uniquely multi-targets the key dimensions of lash and brow hair loss and thinning. This is the first product to pioneer the power of plant stem cell and growth factor technology that nourishes and revives while sleeping without prostaglandin. Simply brush HydroPeptide® Lash Longer Fuller Lusher like an eye liner on eyelashes and brows every night. Night-time is the optimal time to strengthen and revitalize the fine and thinning lashes and brows that cause you to look 10 years older. HydroPeptide® Lash works while you sleep to speed up the microcirculation of protein-rich amino acids and deliver super-oxygenated blood directly to hair follicles. It then strengthens the hair follicles which allows lashes and brows to grow longer. Study participants showed within days, lashes and brows will look healthier and fuller than ever before.
With HydroPeptide® Eye Anti-Wrinkle Dark Circle Concentrate, eyes will appear lifted, refined and dark circles will fade away. HydroPeptide® Eye infuses the eye area with a high concentration of seven potent skin rebuilding peptides and neuropeptides. Vitamin K, hesperidin and chrysin work to help reduce dark bruise-like discolorations and puffiness around the eyes. Innovative light refracting pearls immediately brighten and illuminate the eye area to provide instant results. In a 56 day 34 woman independent consumer evaluation, 94 percent said their eyes looked brighter and the skin around their eyes felt firmer after just ten minutes. Even more impressive, 100 percent said the skin around their eyes felt more moisturized ten minutes after application. The results get even better with time. After four weeks, 89 percent saw reduction in dark circles, 97 percent noticed reduction in wrinkles and 89 percent noticed reduction in puffiness.
In the same independent user study, 8 out of 10 users of HydroPeptide® Lash felt their eyelashes looked fuller in just 4 weeks. 92 percent of women said their eyebrows appeared thicker and lusher, and 96 percent said their brows appeared fuller. Ok, so this whole thing with Miss California USA has really gotten out of hand. To be clear, I do not support her beliefs, BUT we DO live in America where everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. That being said, she is a perfect example of needing to listen and take a moment to understand the question before you answer it. One of the first things that anyone in a setting with interviews, whether pageants, corporate, etc, learns is to be sure to listen to the entire question. If you think that you misunderstood the question, ASK them to repeat it! Don’t just go off on a tangent and hope that you are getting it right. For this reason, I do not feel that it is accurate to say that she lost because of her beliefs, she simply did not understand and therefore answer the question. If you don’t answer the question, you cannot expect to win.
There are many people that feel that the question was inappropriate for a pageant stage, and I have to respectfully disagree with them. Part of your job as a titleholder, whether on a local, state, national or international level, includes fielding questions from the media and being able to think on your feet. The media can be ruthless and will ask you ANYTHING that they want to and you need to be able to gracefully answer it without embarrassing yourself or anyone else. You are also going to often times find yourself being confronted by members of the public who want to know your opinion on current topics. You need to be able to sound intelligent and informed as much as possible, even more so if it is such a hot topic.
For those that were waiting to attack the family as they were leaving the theater I must state again that we live in AMERICA where everyone has the right to their own beliefs. I understand that you were offended by her statement, but that does not give you or anyone else the right to take away her freedom of speech. I was APPALLED to witness what I did in the theater and actually had to move myself and friends out of harms way when it started to turn physical! You are not helping anyone by picking a fight with someone who’s views are not the same as yours. As we all know, education is key, not violence!!
I hope that everyone is able to let this go, quickly. There is no reason for someone to be torn apart in such a manner over their beliefs. I do feel that anyone who is going to be in the public eye, should be a bit more open minded, especially in California, but that is my opinion and mine alone. If that is not who you are, I do not want or expect anyone to pretend otherwise, but know that you are not necessarily in the right arena then. Kids look up to those that are in the public eye, especially when you have a crown on your head, and you need to be able to be a good role model and I don’t feel that you can do that if you are not able to see things from all viewpoints.
For those of you that are not familiar with the question and Miss California’s answer, here it is.
Perez Hilton asked Miss California USA: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not.”
She replied: “Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what? In my country, in my family, I think I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised, and I think it should be between a man and a woman.”

People with developmental and intellectual disabilities are often overlooked in today’s society. With the efforts of Best Buddies, we hope to change society’s view on this population. Best Buddies provides friendship to these people and through our efforts we are changing the world, one friendship at a time.
I’ve decided to join Best Buddies in the 2009 Buddy Two Shoes pledge walk. I’m challenging myself to raise awareness for this worthy cause and plan to raise significant money along the way to support and advocate people with intellectual disabilities.
I am looking for those in the pageant community to join me in this wonderful event. If you are a Vegas local, or will be able to be in Vegas on April 11th, I encourage you to join us as we walk the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. This IS an official Miss USA event, so I ask that you not wear sashes or crowns for the event.
If you’re not able to make the event, please consider making a donation of any size. There is a $25 minimum fundraising requirement to participate in the walk. I’d love it if all of “Pageantry United” were able to raise a minimum of $100 each!
Please visit http://cli.gs/mv20A5 , or email me for more information! They are also looking for items for the participant goody bags and their raffle. So please let me know if you, or someone you know would like to donate product for either the goody bags or raffle. Thank you for your consideration and your support!
Best Wishes,
